Configurator

The configurator allows the configuration and creation of new Servers based on your needs.

To access the configurator, you need to click on:

Compute -> Shared CPU servers -> NEW SERVER

or by going to Shared CPU Configurator.

Once done, the configuration page will open, guiding us through the creation of the new virtual Server.

Info

The use of the configurator is very similar for other "ec" products compatible with the ermes web panel, such as:

For more information, visit the respective pages.

Choosing the plan

As the first step in Server configuration, you will be asked to choose the plan:

Plan Choice

A plan is merely a set of virtual resources (Core, RAM, Storage) to be assigned to a virtual Server, to choose a plan simply click on it and a summary will appear on the right.

Choosing the datacenter

Next, you need to choose a Datacenter from those available for the selected plan:

Datacenter Choice

The different datacenters show us the city location of the datacenter and its identifier code.

Once a datacenter is selected, it will be added to the summary on the right.

Choosing the image

Once the datacenter where you want to place your virtual Server has been selected, you can choose the related image:

Image Choice

The image selection offers various components, in the center (n. 2) we have the list of sections containing different types of images:

  • Standard Images
  • Templates
  • And Cloud Images

Below is the list of available images for the respective section (n. 1).

You can also use the search bar at the top (n. 3) to search for images in the current section.

Standard Images

Standard images represent minimal operating systems without any configuration except for basic users and network configuration.

When using base images, besides the operating system, you can choose the version you want to use, to do this, click on the version under the operating system name and change it as desired.

Templates

Templates appear differently from Standard images:

Template choice

They are indeed versionless and represent the replica of an already existing virtual Server at a certain point in time, to create a new template, you need to go to Server Details.

for more information on templates, see Templates.

Cloud Images

Cloud Images:

Choice Cloud Images

They are different tools from regular Standard images or Templates, as they are tailor-made by Seeweb's expert engineers to solve specific problems.

They are specific versions of Standard images preconfigured with specific Software, allowing users to create complex infrastructures and/or install tools that require a challenging installation procedure ready in seconds. Once your Cloud Image is selected (n. 1), you can view the image description in the box located below the summary (n. 2). posizionato sotto il sommario (n. 2).

Authentication Choice

Another crucial step in creating a Server is the choice of authentication. Currently, the ec services allow two types of authentication:

Choice Auth

  • A Temporary Password (OTP) (n. 1)
  • The use of SSH Keys (n. 2)

OTP Password

Using an OTP Password is certainly the fastest way to configure your authentication; simply create your Server and wait for the email with the access credentials to it.

SSH Keys

Although OTP Passwords offer a fast and convenient authentication, it is sometimes necessary to use more secure means for the first authentication.

For example, if you want to create the Server on behalf of someone else and want to avoid direct sharing of OTP credentials.

To do this, our systems support authentication via SSH key:

Choice SSH Auth

To use an SSH key, it is sufficient to add your public key to our systems, choose the type of authentication and then the key you want to use.

Info

For more information on creating and managing SSH keys, visit: SSH Keys

Technical Support Choice

Before proceeding to server creation, it is highly recommended to choose the appropriate level of support you want to dedicate to your Server:

Choice Support

Info

Support can also be added to an already active Server. To do this or for more information on technical support, see: Add Technical Support

Advanced Configurations

Once all the aforementioned steps are completed, you can Choose the Server Name and proceed with its creation.

If you want to access a deeper customization of your system, you need to view the "Advanced Configurations" section:

Advanced Button

Here there are several optional configuration options that can provide a greater degree of customization for your virtual Server.

Using a reserved period

Among the advanced configurations, Reserved Periods certainly play a very interesting role:

Reserved Period

Reserved periods ensure resource capacity and save over time, reducing maintenance costs and locking resources for a certain period of time.

If you want to remove any reserved period from your Server you need to click on "Unreserve" (n. 1).

Info

It is possible to subscribe to a reserved period even for already existing Servers, to do this or for more information on reserved periods visit: Reserved periods

Using a Cloud Script

Cloud Scripts are one of the most powerful features of ECS services, allowing the customization of your Server through user-owned Scripts.

To do this, the configurator uses two tools:

  • Temporary Scripts
  • Private Scripts

The interface for using Cloud Scripts appears as follows:

Cloud Script

To use Cloud Scripts the first thing to do is activate the functionality from the "Use Cloud Script" button (n. 1).

Temporary Cloud Scripts

Temporary Scripts allow you to write your own Script directly during Server configuration.

They are recommended for solving simple and quick tasks that do not require more than 20 lines of code.

To do this you need to select "Temporary" in the list of Scripts (n. 2), once done, the IDE on the right (n. 3) will become editable and you'll be able to write your own script.

Private Cloud Scripts

For more complex and especially repetitive tasks, Temporary Cloud Scripts are not the most suitable tool; for this our services allow the use of your own Private Scripts.

To create a new Script, you need to use your own Library, after the creation, it will be possible to select it in the list of scripts (n. 2), and at this point, the IDE on the right (n. 3) will show the content of the selected script. This tool allows for the reuse of your Scripts and makes the customization of a virtual Server simpler and more efficient.

Environment Variables

After selecting your Private Script, you'll notice that the section related to Environment Variables becomes interactive:

Env Vars

Environment variables allow you to use your Cloud Scripts dynamically by changing specific values while leaving the rest of the script unchanged.

To do this, you can write the script using standard bash variables such as "$NAME" and then refer to these in the environment variables section as shown in the previous image.

To create a new variable, simply click on "+" (n. 1), enter the variable name (n. 2), and finally the variable's content.

The variables will then be initialized at the beginning of the script.

Choosing a Group

It is also possible to directly assign your Server to a Specific Group. To do this, you can select the group of interest from the specific screen, after creating it from Groups:

Choose a group

Info

It is also possible to assign an existing Server to a group directly from the Server Details

Using Isolation

An equally interesting feature regarding the security of your virtual Server is Isolation.

Isolation allows two or more Servers to be forced to be located on different physical hardware. To do this, you can use the following screen and select the Servers you wish to isolate:

Isolation

Info

You can view the isolation status of a Server directly from the Server Details

Choosing the Server Name

As a final step, it is necessary to select a name for your Server. If no name is selected, it will be automatically generated based on the image, plan, datacenter, and current date.

To assign a name to your Server, you can enter it in the following box:

Choose a name

The Summary

Before proceeding with the Server creation, it is always recommended to verify the summary and ensure you are creating the desired Server:

Summary

Subsequently, just click on "CREATE SERVER" to start the creation process.

Tip

You can monitor the creation status directly from the Actions È possibile monitorare lo stato della creazione direttamente dalle Azioni
