Seeweb Antispam Service
Introduction
Seeweb provides all customers who have purchased the firewall service with the ability to use a centralized antispam and antivirus service to protect their mailboxes. The service does not require installing or configuring any software on your server, and can be activated at any time for an entire domain by properly configuring its DNS.
How it works
Our spam filters are based on a large number of local checks and reputation services, and operate both before receiving the message (evaluating the sender's IP, domain, and mail server behavior) and by examining its content to look for typical spam or virus characteristics. Our staff regularly updates the filtering rules based on spam received by our spamtraps.
Messages identified as spam are bounced back to the sender without being accepted by the server. In no case do our servers discard messages without sending an error message to the sender.
Customer intervention in filter configuration is not expected: we believe it is not appropriate to delegate the responsibility of managing the service and resolving any issues to them. Our goal is to provide all customers with the highest possible level of filtering and to resolve any false positives that are reported to us.
Enabling filtering
The service is activated by configuring two distinct servers as MX records for the domain: the one with higher priority will be your own mail server, while the other will refer to the Seeweb antispam cluster. The IP of the first MX record will be configured to accept mail only from our servers, so all mail will be received by us, filtered, and forwarded to its destination.
Domain managed by Seeweb
If the domain's name servers are managed by Seeweb, simply request the activation of filtering when registering the domain. Alternatively, if you want to activate filtering for an already registered domain, just request it through the ticket system.
Self-managed domain
If the domain's name servers are managed directly on your own servers, or by third parties, you need to set up these records:
YOURDOMAIN.TLD. MX 10 mail-av.YOURDOMAIN.TLD.
YOURDOMAIN.TLD. MX 20 smtp-avas.seeweb.it.
mail-av.YOURDOMAIN.TLD. A IP_ADDRESS
Warning
The IP address assigned to the mail-av name is a secondary IP on the server configured to accept mail only from our mail servers that filter spam. Usually the last available IP on the server is chosen; you can request the firewall configuration from our technical department.
Reporting unwanted emails
No antispam/antivirus system has 100% accuracy, so it may happen that some messages are not correctly classified as spam. We are always interested in suggestions that allow us to improve the service: to report spam you have received, simply forward each message individually as a MIME forward (using the "forward as attachment" function) to the address report@postmaster.seeweb.it.
No additional information needs to be added, as it cannot be read by the system that handles reports: if the problem is serious or urgent, we recommend opening a ticket at the same time.
Note: each report must contain a single spam sample as an attachment. Messages containing more than one sample or containing it in the message body cannot be processed.
If you use webmail on a Cloud Server or dedicated server, our technical department can activate the function to report received spam directly from its interface.
Reporting missing emails
If a message has been blocked by mistake, you can report it to our technical department by opening a ticket: we will immediately analyze the nature of the rejection and the possibilities to avoid it.
In this case, you need to specify the sender, recipient, and approximate time the message was sent.
If a sender who is not our customer prefers, they can contact us directly at the address postmaster@seeweb.it.
Filtering policies
We expect anyone sending mail from or to our network to do so in a strictly opt-in manner and following internationally recognized technical and administrative best practices.
