Limitations

Spot Instances offer the same compute resources as on-demand Cloud Servers, but because of their ephemeral nature they have a few functional limitations.

Unsupported features

On an active spot (state ok or terminating) the following are not available:

• creating Templates;
• creating Snapshots;
• subscribing to a Reserved plan.

A resource that can be revoked with a short notice is not a suitable base for snapshots, templates or long-term reserved commitments.

Unlock via promotion

After a promotion to on-demand these limitations no longer apply: the server becomes on-demand in every respect and supports Templates, Snapshots and Reserved again. To use these features on a workload that started as spot, promote the instance first.
